Marine growth is a serious problem

Marine growth is a serious problem, both in the offshore wind and offshore oil/gas industry, as it impacts the structural fatigue and thereby the carrying of platforms. The traditional solutions for removal of marine growth depend on the weather and are cost-intensive.

SubC PartnerAalborg Universitet and four other offshore firms have entered an innovative partnership, and the aim is to defeat the above-mentioned problem.

Led by SubC, the new subsea robot, ACOMAR, is under development to remove marine growth safe and cost-effective.

Four graduate students from Aalborg University Esbjerg performed the pilot studies, which have formed the basis for the project. Last week, we welcomed SubC’s newest colleague as one of the graduate students started in a full-time position as a Mechanical Engineer.

EUDP - Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram has decided to support the project with DKK 15.4 million (≈ EUR 2.1 million) in funding.

It is an important project for us to be a part of, and we are looking forward to the cooperation.
