Inspection and analysis

Repairing of the port of Hanstholm

As part of the expansion of the port of Hanstholm, an underwater inspection conducted by divers showed that five concrete blocks on the western side of the port did not lie against the pier head.

SubC Partner was contacted by Per Aarsleff A/S to carry out the inspection, and the lack of volume between the concrete blocks and the pier head was measured systematical. The scanning equipment comprised of underwater cameras, an ultrasonic measurement tool and photogrammetry. On the pier, a monitor was used to make sure the inspection could be performed correctly.

The installation required an accurate positioning of the new concrete blocks. Therefore, 3D modelling of the alignment between the blocks was necessary. SubC performed the scanning, analyzed the data, and made drawings for the new concrete blocks. For that reason, it made sense that we attended the installation phase during the summer of 2021.

The analysis formed the basis of five new, unique wedge-shaped concrete blocks to fill in the lack of volume, each with a weight of 25 tons. All the blocks were suspended at the same angle as the existing blocks and in line with the construction.

After the installation, Senior Project Manager at Per Aarsleff A/S, Jan Korsgaard, wrote:

A fine piece of work you did for us in Hanstholm, and your cooperation with us was very appreciated. Great to gain insight into some of the technologies/services SubC Partner offers. I hope to continue our collaboration in the future.
